George MacDonald Ross is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, and Director of the Subject Centre for Philosophical and Religious Studies of the Higher Education Academy, the mission of which is to improve the quality of the student learning experience across the UK. He is at the forefront of the development of the teaching of philosophy as a research discipline, and he has published widely in this area, and addressed many international conferences. In 2004, he was presented with an Award of Merit for 'outstanding leadership and achievements in the teaching of philosophy' by the American Association of Philosophy Teachers. In 2005, he was awarded a University of Leeds Teaching Fellowship, which he is using to develop electronic aids to the reading of difficult texts. In 2006, he was one of 50 academics in England and Northern Ireland to be awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of his national and international leadership role. In 2007, he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
